Food in Cuba

Going to Cuba we had no idea what to expect from the choice of foods. We figured it would be sort of close to Mexican food. There was a slight difference between the two food cultures. Cuban food has more variety from other cultures such as Spanish, Africa, French and even Chinese culture. So if the food was bad we had other choices. Surprisingly though, the food was amazing! Pastelios, croquetas, bocaditos, but my favorite dish of all was the empanadas. I will definitely be trying this dish at home.

Meal Schedule of Cuba!

Boniatos marinated in mojo

Empanadas
Traditional Cuban cooking uses hints and blends of Spanish, Afro-Caribbean, Portuguese, French, Arabic and even Chinese culinary influences and techniques. This wide range of contributions makes Cuban dishes extremely unique and original, with many surprising and delicious flavors.Cuban cuisines are typically simple with several basic ingredients; A tomato-based sauce, black beans, root vegetables. Basic Cuban meals are stews, meat dishes, black beans, boniatos and yucas marinated in mojo (hot olive oil, lemon juice, sliced raw onions, garlic, cumin, and little water.)Our favorite meal was the boniatos marinated in mojo. Breakfast consists of toast (tostadas) dipped in white coffee, a combination of strong coffee and warm milk.Lunch and dinner, usually consist of a hearty spread, usually with dishes combining white rice, black beans and other legumes, meats and salads. My favorite meal was the empanadas which  a cuban sandwich.

My Journey In Cuba;Geography

Cuba truly is the largest island of the West Indies group!..

Cuba Mountains

Beach

The island has huge mountains which cover more than one third of the total land area in the southeast and south-central area.Cuba also includes smaller islands isolates and cays.It is located between the Bahamas and Jamaica. We traveled 90 miles from Florida to get there and  it was a cool experience.Luckily we picked one of the best times: when the climate is dry( between November and April). The average temperature around this time is 77 degrees.Cuba is also located close to the Tropic of Cancer making is  subtropical. The weather and environment was so calming and relaxing especially with my times spent by the shores.
